ESP vs Wallhack: What’s the Difference
A plain-English look at what a wallhack, an ESP, chams and radar each actually show you, and why an aimbot is a different thing entirely.
Start here: two words people mix up
Ask ten players what a wallhack does and half will describe an ESP, and the other half will describe an aimbot. The words get used as if they all mean the same thing, and they don't. If you're weighing up a visual cheat and trying to work out what you're actually paying for, the ESP vs wallhack question is the one to get straight first. This guide keeps it plain: what each one shows you, where they overlap, and why an aimbot sits in a category of its own.
What a wallhack actually shows you
Wallhack is the older, broader term, and it does what the name says: it lets you see players through solid geometry. In the early Counter-Strike days that meant an enemy model rendered visible through a wall, so you knew someone was holding an angle before you peeked it. Loot and objectives got folded into the word over the years, but the core idea never changed.
What a plain wallhack doesn't do is tell you anything about that body. No health, no name, no distance, no gear. You get presence and position, and that is the whole of it. It answers one question well: is there someone behind that wall, and roughly where.
What ESP adds on top
ESP stands for Extra-Sensory Perception, and it's the modern form of the same idea with a data layer bolted on. Instead of just rendering a model through a wall, an ESP reads position, health and gear information and draws it as a heads-up display over your screen. The common elements are:
- Boxes. A 2D or 3D outline round each player, so a target reads at a glance against a busy background.
- Skeleton lines. A stick figure showing posture and which way someone is facing. You can tell a prone camper from a player mid-peek, and see where the head is.
- Health, armour and distance. Numbers that say whether an enemy is one shot from dead and how far off they are before you commit.
- Names, loadouts and snaplines. Labels for who you're looking at and what they're carrying, often with a line drawn to each target.
Where ESP and wallhack really differ
Here is the distinction, and it's the heart of the ESP vs wallhack question. A wallhack changes what you see of a player through a wall: it's a picture. An ESP adds an information layer on top: who they are, how far off, how much health they have left, what they're holding, which way they're facing. One is vision, the other is a dashboard.
In practice the line blurs, because most modern builds ship both. Switch on a box, a skeleton and a health bar and you effectively have a wallhack that talks. But when a player asks which is better, they're really asking whether they want bare visibility or full readouts, and that is a genuine choice with a genuine price gap behind it.
Chams, radar and the wider family
Two more terms sit in the same family and get muddled just as often.
Chams is short for chameleon skins, not chamois, whatever an older guide might have told you. It's a rendering trick: player models are filled with a flat, high-contrast colour that shifts depending on whether the model is behind cover or out in the open, so a body pops out of shadow or foliage even at distance. Think of it as a wallhack tuned for readability rather than data.
A radar hack takes the same positional information an ESP uses and draws it as a 2D minimap in a corner or on a second screen. You get map-wide awareness of rotations, flanks and lurks without cluttering your crosshair. And in a loot game like Tarkov, the same principle extends to items: a loot ESP prices and tags what's on the floor as well as the players in the room.
Why information beats aim in tactical games
It's tempting to assume aim is the strongest edge a cheat can hand you. In tactical shooters it usually isn't. Counter-Strike, Valorant and Tarkov are built around information you're meant to earn: holding an angle, timing a flank, setting a crossfire, reading where the last enemy rotated. The moment you can see every position, all of that stops working against you. Knowing where people are quietly cancels the whole mind game, and that is often a bigger advantage than a slightly cleaner shot.
Aimbot isn't in this conversation
This is the split most people miss. A wallhack, an ESP, chams and a radar all do one thing: they show you information. None of them touches your aim. An aimbot is the opposite category: it moves your crosshair for you, and it's a separate feature with its own settings and its own exposure. A single build can bundle both, but they are not the same tool, and blurring them is how players end up buying the wrong thing.

Why ESP is sharper in some games than others
Buyers often expect every ESP to be equally detailed. They aren't, and the reason is structural. The strongest defence a game has isn't scanning your PC, it's simply not telling your PC where the enemies are. This is server-side visibility, sometimes called fog of war: the server withholds the position of any player you have no line of sight to, so a client-side overlay has nothing to draw until that player is genuinely visible. A game with tight server-side occlusion gives an ESP far less to work with than one that streams positions freely.
That's the honest reason quality varies from game to game and patch to patch. On top of it sit kernel-level anti-cheats like Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye, plus human review of how you play. That is the environment every provider works in, us included. It isn't a wall you beat; it's the reality you buy into.
The honest bit: it still gets you reported
Seeing everything does not make you invisible. Visual information is the lowest-risk class of cheat to run, but it still gets accounts banned, and almost always for the same reason: playing obvious. Pre-aiming a wall every single round, tracking people through smoke, never once looking surprised, that is what pulls a report and puts a human reviewer on your account. The software rarely gives you away. Behaviour does.
Which of our builds draw what
Once the terms are clear, choosing a build is mostly about which of these layers you actually want. A rough map of ours:
